ABC Honors Contractors for Commitment to Careers in Construction

Washington, D.C. – March 12 —  Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Feb. 28 recognized two contractors from ABC member firms for their dedication to advancing careers in construction. The fifth annual “Supportive Contractor” Awards were presented during ABC's 2009 National Convention in Honolulu.

The awards are sponsored by ABC’s educational affiliate, the Trimmer Education Foundation, and recognize ABC contractor members who have championed careers in construction.

Chuck Goodrich of Gaylor, Inc., Noblesville, Ind., a member of ABC's Indiana chapter, was recognized for his support of the ABC student chapter at Purdue University. Goodrich's guidance and leadership has inspired many students and has helped ABC member companies attract some of the best construction managers in the country.

Sheldon Shapiro of Shapiro & Duncan, Inc., Rockville, Md., a member of ABC's Metro Washington chapter, was recognized for his support of the ABC student chapter at Montgomery College. Duncan leads by example and has been a mentor to countless students, guiding them as they enter the construction workforce.

“We honor these dedicated individuals for their enthusiasm and the positive impact they have had on their communities,” said 2009 ABC national chairman Jerry Gorski, president of Gorski Engineering, Inc., Collegeville, Pa.   “The active involvement of these award winners should remind contractors everywhere that in spite of busy schedules, it is important to take time to give back to the next generation of construction industry leaders.”
