Tellepsen Earns Second Consecutive AGC National Safety Award

Houston Commercial and Industrial Builder Recognized with National Honor from Associated General Contractors of America for Second Consecutive Eligible Year

HOUSTON — For its second eligible year in a row, Tellepsen announced that it has been awarded the national Willis Construction Safety Excellence Award in the Building Division with between 700,001 and one million work hours by The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

“People — whether employees, subcontractors, clients or the public — are important to us both personally and professionally, and we dedicate the resources necessary to ensure their safety. We are proud to have been recognized for our efforts again by the AGC, the leading association in the construction industry.”

As part of the AGC's Construction Industry Safety Excellence (CISE) Awards program, Tellepsen was recognized for commendable safety management, training and commitment at the organization's 11th annual event. The company has now earned the Willis Construction Safety Excellence Award twice, having been honored for the first time in 2007. “There's no better measure of a company's commitment to quality than the strength of their safety program,” said Doug Pruitt, the association's past president who announced this year's winners. “While completing magnificent projects is important, protecting hard-working employees is essential in this industry.”

“For more than one hundred years, we have worked as a team to make safety our top priority,” said Howard Tellepsen, chairman and CEO of Tellepsen. “People — whether employees, subcontractors, clients or the public — are important to us both personally and professionally, and we dedicate the resources necessary to ensure their safety. We are proud to have been recognized for our efforts again by the AGC, the leading association in the construction industry.”

“This award is only possible with our entire team of employees and subcontractors staying committed to keeping our jobsites safe. Our executive management team gives us everything we need to build on our safety culture and legacy. Tellepsen's safety statistics are industry-leading; however, safety at Tellepsen is not about statistics, it is all about every worker returning home safely to their families everyday,” added Susan Phillips, safety director of Tellepsen.

Phillips noted that the company has 5.1 million logged manhours and more than six and a half years of no lost-time accidents.

Eligibility for the AGC Award is based upon submission and presentation of safety records, statistics and details of a company's safety program to a local, then national AGC panel for evaluation and judging. Judges evaluate a number of criteria including the company's principals" commitment to safety, accident prevention plan and procedures and the presence of designated safety coordinator, manager and committee. Emergency procedures and the presence of safety information, as well as the way the company reports and investigates accidents, are also critical in the judging.

According to the AGC, companies are not eligible to receive the award again for three years after winning.
