Master Builders of Iowa is AGC's Best Contractors’ Chapter

Associated General Contractors of America Names Des Moines, Iowa-based Chapter its Best Chapter of 2009, Citing Policy Work, Program Development and Service Offerings
The Master Builders of Iowa was the best large chapter among the network of 95 chapters that make up the Associated General Contractors of America, the national trade association announced today. The statewide contractors’ group was selected in large part because of its policy, program and service successes during 2009, association officials noted.

“This chapter essentially wrote the book on how to perform under pressure last year,” said Ted Aadland, the association’s president. “Despite all the challenges our industry has endured, this dedicated group kept finding ways to turn adversity into opportunity for its members.”

Aadland noted that during the past year, the Master Builders of Iowa successfully fought state wage and benefits mandates that would have saddled contractors and taxpayers with needless new costs, helped enact new Good Samaritan provisions to make it easier for contractors to help during natural emergencies and increased tax credits for historic preservation.
He added that the chapter also helped lead the successful Iowa Construction Expo, participated in the Governor’s Safety Conference and its efforts to raise and award over $40,000 in scholarship funds. Finally, Aadland cited the chapter’s work in developing a multicultural construction program, its career development training program and its comprehensive range of safety and technical training programs in announcing the award.

“This is the highest award an AGC Chapter can receive and we are delighted to have been selected as winner from the best of best within the AGC organization,” said Scott R. Norvell, president and chief executive officer of the Master Builder of Iowa. “This will be a great way to start our celebration of our 100 years in business beginning 2012.”
Norvell said the chapter was able to accomplish so much last year because of the leadership and resources provided by the national group. He stated that the partnership affords the opportunity for our members to be high performing construction professionals in Iowa.
