TurnerSmoot Team Selected To Manage Construction of $92M Columbus Convention Center Hotel in Columbus, Ohio

Hotel will Feature Green Building Elements for the Benefit of Guests and Staff

NEW YORK — The construction management team of Turner Construction Company, the nation’s leading general builder, and Smoot Construction have been selected by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority to provide pre-construction and construction management services for the $92 million Columbus Convention Center Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. Completion is scheduled for 2012.

The 532-room hotel features a 10-story atrium, ballroom, meeting and banquet rooms with 4-star finishes, a full-service restaurant and lounge and a fitness center. The scope of work also includes the construction of a bridge connector to the Greater Columbus Convention Center, a vehicle ramp to the parking facility and a pedestrian entrance to the garage.

The project is being constructed to achieve a LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council. Green features of the facility include a 33% reduction in energy/carbon usage,   dual-flush toilets and low-flow fixtures, enhanced commissioning, construction waste recycling, use of regional materials with recycled content and low-emitting materials, bicycle storage and changing rooms, individual occupant lighting and thermal control and a Green Seal certification for Lodging Properties.
