Sundt Construction Awarded $100M Courthouse Project in California

Sundt Construction, Inc. was selected to build the Kings County Courthouse in Hanford for the Superior Court of California, County of Kings, by the Administrative Office of the Courts. The $100-million courthouse is the largest courthouse project Sundt has been awarded by the AOC to date.

“We are thrilled with this selection,” said Wayne Einbinder, vice president for Sundt who heads the company's Special Projects Division. “This will be the fourth contract awarded to Sundt by the AOC, validating our previous excellent work. It will also be the largest project between our organizations, confirming Sundt's focused approach to winning courthouses and other large, complex projects across the United States.”

The proposed new courthouse, which is slated to begin construction in March 2013, will replace and consolidate five existing facilities. The facility, which will measure approximately 144,460-square-feet, will include 12 courtrooms; support space for court administration and public services; a self-help center; improved jury assembly accommodations as well as building-support space.

Additionally, the courthouse will feature secure parking for 17 vehicles, a sally port and in-custody holding areas for both state prisoners and county inmates. A surface parking lot will also provide a total of 360 parking spaces for staff, visitors and jurors. The project sustainability goal is LEED-Silver certification, and the anticipated completion date for the courthouse is March 2015.

For the AOC, Sundt recently completed the Richard E. Arnason Justice Center in Pittsburg, Calif., is constructing the Mammoth Lakes Courthouse in Mono County, Calif. and is in the pre-construction phase on the Porterville Courthouse in Tulare County, Calif. Sundt was also recently selected to work on the Pima County Courthouse project in Tucson, Ariz.
