Incoming CEO David S. Crawford Brings More than 40 Years of Experience to Leadership Role
TEMPE, Ariz. — Sundt Construction, Inc. has announced that J. Doug Pruitt will retire from his position as CEO effective Sept. 30, 2011. Pruitt has worked for the Sundt family of companies since 1966 and served as CEO for 13 years. He will remain chairman of Sundt’s board of directors.
“This is my home,” Pruitt said. “I’ve had a great run, and thanks to my career, I am in a position in my retirement to help this state intelligently grow and prosper so my children and grandchildren might have as many opportunities as I had.”
Pruitt will remain as an active member of the board of the Arizona Commerce Authority, with the goal of helping further his industry and community well into the future.
Pruitt launched his construction career with Sundt when he was 21 years old. He spent two years working out of the Tucson office before transferring to the then-new Phoenix office to work on the Bureau of Indian Affairs Hospital project. He managed the Phoenix office from 1979 to 1987, when he was promoted to Building Division manager. During his lengthy career he also served as the Building Division’s chief estimator, and vice president/manager of Construction Management Services.
Upon Pruitt’s retirement, David S. Crawford will take over as CEO. Crawford is being promoted from COO and, like his predecessor, has more than four decades of experience at Sundt.
Three key areas of focus for Crawford include planning for success, being proactive about business development, and matching Sundt’s resources to commitments. In addition to honing and developing the skills of key people and investing in systems, he will also lead the company as it pursues new work — inclusive of both new types of project work as well as work in new geographical markets.
Crawford is a member of The Arizona Builders" Alliance, The American Concrete Institute as well as the Alliance for Construction Excellence. Additionally, is the past chairman and current member of the board of directors for The Design Build Institute of America, as well as the YMCA of Phoenix. Crawford is also a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the states of Arizona, Colorado and Texas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona.
