Mark Cunningham Named Hampton Roads Area Manager for Gilbane Building Company

RICHMOND, Va. — Gilbane Building Company announced Mark Cunningham is assuming the role of area manager for the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Hampton Roads (formerly known as Tidewater, Va.). In this position, Cunningham will lead the effort to increase Gilbane’s presence throughout southeastern Virginia and portions of North Carolina, focusing on governmental, higher education, utilities and K-12 markets.

Cunningham, a construction industry veteran and a member of the Gilbane Building Company team for 32 years, was appointed vice president December 2010 and served as regional support operations manager in Columbus, Ohio, before relocating to the Mid-Atlantic area last fall. He spent six years in the Mid-Atlantic region working on several projects including a three-year assignment on one of the largest pharmaceutical complexes in the country — GlaxoSmithKline in North Carolina.

“Gilbane decided to establish an office in Hampton Roads because of the area’s rich tradition and heritage. As we”ve done in several areas throughout the country where we have expanded, we”re confident we will not only positively impact the quality of construction the area demands but will also establish ourselves as an active citizen in the community,” said Cunningham.

Recently in Gilbane’s Central Region, Cunningham helped achieve outstanding customer satisfaction while working with a wide range of clients including Grange Mutual Insurance Corporate Headquarters, multiple labs for the Battelle Memorial Institute, and the Franklin County Courthouse.

An award-winning construction professional, Cunningham is the recipient of such honors as the 2008 Construction Waste Management Award; Gilbane’s 2001, 2006 and 2007 Iver Johnson Builders of the Year Regional Award and Gilbane’s 2006 Paul J. Choquette Safety Excellence Award.

With his experience and innovative mindset, Cunningham will be a valuable resource to both the area and its clients.
