WASHINGTON, D.C. — Turner Construction Company was recognized by the Associated General Contractors of America's Metropolitan, D.C. Chapter for its work with Inova Health Systems and DC Public Schools for the construction of the South Patient Tower and Takoma Elementary Campus Reconstruction.
The Inova Health System is expanding the Fairfax Campus with the 2015 Capital Improvement Program. This program consists of three main projects, the first being the South Patient Tower. The project, designed by Wilmot/Sanz Architecture, is composed of a 236,000-square-foot, 11-story addition to the existing Tower Building, and will provide 174 medical-surgical, ICU and specialty beds in single patient rooms. In addition, shell space on the lower levels will accommodate future support services. The South Patient Tower project will pursue LEED-Silver certification.
The reconstruction of the Takoma Elementary Campus was a design-build effort to repair the school, which was severely damaged by a fire in December 2010, destroying the majority of the building's interior. The most challenging aspect of this project was the 6-month schedule, during which time Turner closely collaborated with the entire team — Owner, Architect, and Contractor — to meet an extremely important schedule for re-opening the school.
The awards were presented on Wednesday, October 10th at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.
