ATLANTA, Ga. — Balfour Beatty Construction has been awarded a $1-million task order to serve as the construction manager at-risk for certain small construction projects at Georgia State University. The task order, which was awarded through a qualifications-based selection process issued by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, is the first project for Balfour Beatty Construction on the campus of Georgia State.
Balfour Beatty Construction will provide a range of construction services that will vary in size and scope as task orders are issued by the University System of Georgia. To date, two renovation projects have been identified as part of the task order contract.“We are excited to partner with Georgia State University, a respected institution of learning with a reputation for excellence here in Atlanta and across the nation,” said Al Petrangeli, division president for Balfour Beatty Construction in Georgia. “We look forward to building upon our successes in Georgia's higher education market with this valued client.”
Balfour Beatty Construction will begin work in the third quarter of 2013 with an 11,000-square-foot interior renovation on Georgia State's 60 Piedmont Avenue building. The building, which is located in the heart of Atlanta's Sweet Auburn Historic District and along the main corridor of Georgia State student residences, will house the University's Alumni Association. Following the completion of the 60 Piedmont Avenue building, Balfour Beatty Construction will begin a comprehensive roof replacement on the 75 Piedmont building.
The design team is led by noted Atlanta-based architecture firm, Stevens & Wilkinson, whose diverse portfolio includes significant higher education experience.
