The reconstruction involved a 400-foot, four-span bridge with two tracks and included a bridge raising to allow for a new closed deck timber bridge. Each track bridge required removal and was replaced during a seven-day track outage that was planned before the launch of the site work.
The detailed project plan was created and approved six weeks prior to the outage. The project involved the removal of a deteriorated closed concrete bridge deck, rehabilitation of bridge bearings, raising of the new bridge structure 1.5 feet, installation of a closed timber deck bridge, walkway and handrail.
The project was a success as it was on time and credited to the coordination of the full project team and cooperation from the Norfolk Southern Railroad, Preservations Parks of Delaware County and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Illinois Constructors has been working with the railroad for over 12 years.
