McShane Construction to Design-Build 86,616 SF Build-to-Suit for University of Chicago

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Jeffrey A. Raday, P.E., president of McShane Construction Company, announced that the firm has been awarded the comprehensive design/build construction assignment for an 86,616-square-foot Facility Services Building on behalf of the University of Chicago in Illinois. The 1.85-acre site is owned by the university and is in close proximity to the campus, providing convenience and direct accessibility to the new facility.

The build-to-suit will be constructed to meet LEED Silver certification and features a geothermal heating and cooling system, green roof, low VOC finishes and permeable pavers. In addition, electric car charging stations will be available and located within the building's parking lot.

The new facility will provide necessary office and warehouse space for the support operations and staff who serve the faculty and students at the university on a daily basis. The   project includes the construction of an office component featuring conference rooms, locker rooms and breakroom. The university departments that will utilize space within the warehouse area include the landscaping, structural mechanics, residential, paint, electrical, lock and inventory shops. The facility will feature a 24-foot clear height, drive-in doors, one depressed dock and a full-building sprinkler system.

The exterior of the Facility Services Building will incorporate a contemporary design and be constructed of tinted precast panels accented with a light sandblasted finish. Complementing this modern exterior aesthetic is a decorative metal canopy that will be installed at the entrance of the facility. Specialty lighting sconces will be artfully positioned along the exterior, enhancing the design elements and providing improved lighting and visibility for the facility.

McShane Construction will also complete all sitework for the project including landscaping, sidewalks and the construction of a generous parking lot to accommodate staff, visitors and on-site parking for 68 of the university's fleet vehicles.

“We are delighted to serve as design/builder for this comprehensive build-to-suit assignment for the University of Chicago,” stated Raday. “McShane's team of dedicated project professionals offers extensive experience in the construction of office and   warehouse/distribution facilities. Utilizing our in-depth knowledge and expertise, we are   confident that McShane will deliver a completed facility that meets the goals of the university and provides an exceptional environment to serve the needs of this prominent institution in the   future.”
