BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Brasfield & Gorrie recently announced the completion of a powerhouse that will supply utilities to the new Airbus campus in Mobile, Alabama. The project was led by Honeywell and Brasfield & Gorrie served as the design-build subcontractor.
The 15,000-square-foot facility includes electrical distribution equipment and a central plant that will supply potable water, sanitary sewer, hot water, chilled water and compressed air for assembly of the A320 family of aircraft. The facility also will house building management and fire protection systems.
In addition to collaborating with Honeywell, Brasfield & Gorrie teamed with Thompson Engineering and Burns & McDonnell to complete this design-build project.
Brasfield & Gorrie is also constructing a final assembly line hangar, service building and logistics center on the Airbus campus. The general contractor completed the final assembly line piling and foundations project in May 2014.
Brasfield & Gorrie’s three projects on the Airbus campus have had an economic impact on the local community. Nearly $20 million in contracts has been sourced to local subcontractors and vendors. Nearly 60 percent of all craft personnel on these jobs were hired locally from surrounding counties, including Mobile, Baldwin, Washington and Escambia. Nearly 40 percent of Brasfield & Gorrie’s subcontractors and vendors were local.
