Architectural Firm, Developer and Builder Selected for OGE Energy Corp. HQ

Kestrel Investments and OGE Energy Corp. recently announced two firms will play major roles in the proposed design and development of a new downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma office building to house OGE's headquarters. The building will be developed and built by Clayco, Inc. and designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.

“We are thrilled to have firms of the caliber of Clayco and RAMSA leading the proposed development and design of this building,” said Rainey Williams, president of Kestrel Investments. “I"m excited to have them join our efforts to create a building that will continue the unprecedented growth in downtown Oklahoma City, and provide a great new home for OG&E. Our goal is to break ground on the new building early next year, with first occupancy in early 2017.”

OG&E is expected to occupy 300,000 square feet of a new structure on Sheridan between Hudson and Walker. The development team is also considering retail businesses, parking and residential or hotel options for the project, located in close proximity to the site for the new downtown Oklahoma City convention center.

Oklahoma City's 1993 Metropolitan Area Projects brought about improvements, such as the Bricktown Ballpark, Bricktown Canal and the Chesapeake Energy Arena, which spurred construction of Sonic's corporate headquarters in Bricktown. Its successor, the MAPS for Kids initiative passed in 2001, recently concluded with the grand opening of the John Rex Elementary School in downtown Oklahoma City. MAPS 3, passed in 2009 with a projected cost of $777 million, promises greater expansion in Oklahoma City and has encouraged several corporations to establish headquarters downtown. Construction projects have included the Devon Tower completed in 2012, the transformation of the Sandridge Energy corporate headquarters and a relocation of Continental Resources’ corporate headquarters. Additional expansion includes the development of 21c Museum Hotels at the historic Fred Jones plant, the Embassy Suites hotel and House of Bedlam family entertainment center, the Aloft Hotel and multiple other hotels and residences in and around downtown.
