COSTA MESA, Calif. — BCCI Construction Company recently renovated Canon’s 42,000-square-foot Experience Center and showroom, which offers an array of services, as well as educational and technical support for professionals and amateurs alike. BCCI was responsible for core and shell renovations to the 1973 building, as well as a complete interior build-out to transform the space into an innovative, hands-on facility serving’s Canon’s West Coast customers. With the help of BCCI’s Sustainability team, the Canon Experience Center was awarded LEED-NC Gold certification.
BCCI utilized a turn-key, design-build approach, hiring the design and construction teams to effectively align the project budget with the schedule. The existing tilt-up building required new mechanical and plumbing systems, fire protection, energy efficient lighting and switchgear; BCCI was able to reuse the existing electrical system to diminish renovation costs. The structure was reconfigured and received a new entrance, lobby, windows and roof. The state-of-the-art facility also includes a new theater addition, as well as interior improvements for education classrooms, conference and training rooms, a CPS lounge, photo studios and dark lens rooms. Other additions include ADA-access ramps, a new parking area, drought-resistant landscaping and a private employee patio and seating area.
The new Canon Experience Center pursued LEED Gold certification under the Building Design & Construction: New Construction and Major Renovations rating system. BCCI’s sustainability team offered consulting services, conducted the initial LEED charrette, managed all green building documentation, assisted with material and equipment selection and coordinated the certification process with the GBCI and USGBC.
Through a collaborative project delivery model, BCCI helped rehabilitate a once idle building into a branded interactive environment with an engaging product showroom, wide-ranging educational venues, on-site customer service and high-tech repair labs.
