SAN DIEGO, Calif. — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. recently celebrated the structural steel topping out of the new Rady Children's Hospital San Diego Education Office Building in California. McCarthy team members joined representatives from Rady Children's Hospital including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Irvin “Buzz” Kaufman and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Nicholas Holmes.
The 96,000-square-foot building is located in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego and will house Rady Children's Hospital doctors and executives and also provide meeting and educational spaces. The building will feature state-of-the-industry audio and video capabilities, while supporting preliminary telemedicine operations. In addition to the EOB, McCarthy is also overseeing extensive offsite underground utility work for both Rady Children's Hospital San Diego and neighboring Sharp Healthcare as part of this project.
Designed by Stantec Architects to achieve the level of occupant health and environmental sustainability required to earn LEED-certified status, the project is scheduled for completion in late 2016. The hospital will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction process.
