National Honor Recognizes Company’s Charitable Contributions, Volunteerism

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Balfour Beatty U.S. has been honored with the “AGC in the Community” special recognition award by the Associated General Contractors of America and its charitable arm during the organization’s annual convention. The AGC in the Community award was created to showcase the community service projects of AGC of America’s chapters and members, and to recognize projects that epitomize the essence of charitable giving through hands-on service and donations to charitable organizations.
The award was presented to Balfour Beatty for efforts connected to the 2016 Sharefest Community Development’s Annual Workday – an event that mobilizes thousands of volunteers throughout Los Angeles County (California) to complete tangible work projects that will change the quality of life for its residents.

Two weeks prior to the 2016 Sharefest Workday held on April 30, the company conducted its 4th Annual Sharefest Golf Outing to raise the funds necessary to pay for the materials needed to perform beautification and improvement projects located on ten school campuses in the Redondo, Torrance, Culver City and Wiseburn School Districts.

The funds also benefit Sharefest’s Youth Development Academy, a summer program offering academic and extracurricular activities to underserved middle and high school students, in addition to funding scholarships for students interested in pursuing higher education in the construction industry. Scholarships are awarded to students who attend schools located in each of the four school districts Balfour Beatty supported during this year’s Workday.

The 2016 Golf Outing raised over $110,000—bringing the overall total raised since the Golf Outing’s inception to $360,000. In addition to the funds raised, more than 350 Balfour Beatty employees, contractors, vendors, site staff, students, family and community members volunteered to complete the 2016 Sharefest Workday beautification projects in the four school districts the company supported—all at no cost to the schools.
