Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Held for Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center

ATLANTA, Ga. – The city of Atlanta and Winter Johnson FS360 recently celebrated the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new recreation center is situated between the King Memorial MARTA station and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic District in Atlanta, Georgia.

The $24.4-million Design-Build project fills the void created when the original Martin Luther King, Jr. Natatorium closed in 2012. The new Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center is now a key focal point and unifying center for the area’s dynamic and growing neighborhoods. Features include:

  • Zero-entry family-fun pool with play equipment features and a distinct area with lap swimming lanes
  • Basketball gymnasium with six goals and flexibility for other hard-court sports
  • Elevated running/walk track overlooking the gymnasium and pool
  • Climbing wall
  • Outdoor terrace
  • Multiple community and meeting rooms
  • Senior center
  • Group fitness areas
  • Computer room
