JE Dunn Construction has completed the first project of BNA Vision, a $1-billion expansion for Nashville International Airport, located in Tennessee.
Enhancements and expansion of the airport’s interim International Arrivals Building took center stage recently at a ribbon cutting marking completion of the $8.2-million first project. The upgraded interim IAB will accommodate immediate needs for additional international capacity while a permanent building — a larger, state-of-the-art International Arrival Facility — is being designed and built, by 2023.
The interim IAB will serve as a welcome center and process international passengers arriving in Nashville, including passengers to be served by British Airways’ recently announced nonstop, five-days-a-week service from Nashville to London’s Heathrow Airport, which began on May 4.
Upgrades to the interim IAB include:
- A second passenger boarding bridge
- Improvements to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing area, including self-check kiosks and screen equipment
- A new, direct connection between the interim IAB and the baggage claim, eliminating the need to re-check baggage or be re-screened by the Transportation Security Administration, unless transferring to a domestic flight
The enhanced interim IAB increased the airport’s processing capacity for international arrivals from 200 passengers per hour to 400 passengers per hour.
The airport’s BNA Vision is a planned five-year, $1-billion expansion and facelift, including a revamped terminal and plaza, upgraded parking, a hotel and new retail.
JE Dunn is also the general contractor for a six-story parking garage with 2,000 spaces, part of BNA Vision.
