115-Year-Old Steeple Ravaged by Hurricane Replaced, Refurbished to Surpass Original Splendor

Stevens Construction has completed a steeple replacement project at the Alva United Methodist Church, located in Alva, Florida.

Built in 1903 and established in 1886, the Alva United Methodist Church sustained wind damage as a result of Hurricane Irma in 2017. The entire steeple blew off onto the street and the bell was the only piece still intact.

The congregation of 325 fundraised to ensure the steeple could be built to surpass its original splendor. Stevens Construction provided the foundation and structural steel work to build a new 40-foot steeple that has been strengthened to meet today’s codes. The bell was refurbished by a local contractor.

Burt Hill/Pollock Krieg Architects, Inc. provided the design services.
