McCarthy Building Companies Adds 26-Year Industry Veteran to Northern Pacific Region

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has added Ann Poppen as project director for its Northern Pacific Region. Drawing on more than 26 years of experience in design, planning, preconstruction design phase services and project execution, Poppen will oversee projects from development through occupancy. She serves as part of the Sacramento Business Unit in the company’s Roseville, California office.

As project director, Poppen will lead McCarthy’s project teams and is already working on the planning phases of McCarthy’s newest high-rise project, Stanislaus County’s New Modesto Courthouse, with construction set to begin in early 2020. She is responsible for overseeing a collaborative integrated construction management-at-risk delivery model.

Poppen’s dedication to enhancing the built environment can be seen throughout California. Over the course of her career, she has managed more than $1 billion in projects of all delivery methods, including public-private partnership, Design-Build and construction management-at-risk. Well versed in all project aspects, Poppen’s specialty is preconstruction design phase services planning, which she has successfully leveraged on behalf of the City of Napa, UC Merced, private development partners and numerous CSUs throughout the state. Additional project highlights include the Judicial Council of California’s San Diego Courthouse, Verizon Wireless Data and Call Center, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s National Ignition Facility and 500 Capitol Mall in downtown Sacramento.

Prior to joining McCarthy, Poppen was a vice president with Sundt Construction Inc. She is LEED AP certified and a member of the Design-Build Institute of America. She earned a B.S. in construction engineering and management from Purdue University.
