Clark Construction, joint venture partner Blinderman Construction and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command celebrated the start of work at the P-714 Unaccompanied Housing Project with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The Design-Build project, located at Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago, Illinois, will feature a new 166,000-square-foot barracks capable of housing more than 600 enlisted military personnel. Opened in 1911, the NSGL is the Navy’s largest training installation and the home of the Navy’s only Boot Camp.
Clark/Blinderman will construct the facility with laundry rooms on each floor, a dayroom/multi-purpose room, lounges, computerized classrooms and a vending/kitchen area. The structure will consist of reinforced concrete on a shallow foundation with a brick exterior. The contract also includes the demolition of two other buildings on the base.
The project team’s first major milestone will be the superstructure top out in August 2019. Completion is slated for August 2020.
