ICRI Announces 2020 Project of the Year, Awards of Excellence Winners

ICRI 2020 Project of the Year: The Austonian, exposed slab edge repairs.

The International Concrete Repair Institute recently announced the winners of its 2020 Project Awards. The Austonian – Exposed Slab Edge Repairs was chosen as the ICRI 2020 Project of the Year. This year, three finalists were chosen.

Less than six years after construction of a 59-story building located in downtown Austin, Texas, a large piece of concrete from a slab edge fell more than 200 feet. The repair design team performed a forensic investigation to determine the cause of the premature damage and identify repair solutions. Based on the investigation findings, the adopted repair plan included full-depth removal and replacement of all exposed slab edges in the building (approximately 1.75 miles). The repair design addressed numerous dimensional constraints, including steel congestion in the slab edges and the presence of unbonded post-tensioning anchors along the slab edge. To enhance durability, the repairs incorporated the installation of a waterproofing membrane on all exposed concrete in the building.

ICRI awarded five additional 2020 Awards of Excellence. Detailed descriptions of the winning projects can be found at www.icri.org
