State Correctional Facility One of Largest Construction Projects in Utah History

Big-D Construction recently wrapped up its services as the program manager consultant for the Utah State Prison Relocation project. A joint venture with Kitchell CEM, the Utah State Correctional Facility is one of the largest construction projects in the state’s history. The project is also among the largest detention projects in the United States.

Dozens recently gathered for the official ribbon cutting at the new facility, marking its substantial completion.

Comprised of 35 buildings and 1.35 million square feet of operational space, the facility sits on approximately 172 acres of land, about five miles west of the airport. The total cost of the facility, including infrastructure, is roughly $1 billion.

The Utah State Correctional Facility will be occupied by the end of this summer, according to the Utah Department of Corrections.
