University of Nevada, Reno’s Mathewson Gateway Project Tops Out

The University of Nevada, Reno Mathewson Gateway recently topped out. University representatives joined Clark Construction and project developer Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate at a ceremony celebrating the over 40,000 work hours that took place to reach this milestone.

The five-story, 128,000-square-foot academic building will house the College of Business and provide various spaces tailored to best practices in modern business education. These include a 300-seat auditorium, advanced technology labs, optimized teaching and study spaces, a student commons, team meeting spaces and collaboration zones and faculty and administrative offices.

The best-in-class campus also features a landscaped courtyard, outdoor plazas and a mix of student and community outreach programs that foster entrepreneurship, innovation and spontaneous learning.

Since the October 2023 groundbreaking, the project team has:

  • Placed 3,800 cubic yards for concrete foundations
  • Poured 1,300 cubic yards of concrete for vertical cores
  • Erected 900 tons of structural steel
  • Installed 130,000 square feet of metal decking

UNR’s Mathewson Gateway District is adjacent to Interstate 80 and downtown Reno. The new business building aims to catalyze regional growth by enhancing connections between campus and the local community.

The project team focused on including local representation to jump-start this economic growth. More than 70% of the project value is contracted to Northern Nevada trade partners; a total of 23 Northern Nevada subcontractors are engaged in the project.

The project is expected to be delivered in July 2025. The project team also included LMN Architects.
