Former DOJ Office Converted into Luxury Apartments in Washington, D.C.

Construction firm CFP, a division of Clark Construction, and developer Foulger-Pratt have announced the completion of Accolade, a landmark project that transformed a former Department of Justice office building into Washington, D.C.’s newest luxury apartments. The Accolade is now the closest residential building to the White House.

The 13-story, 280,000-square-foot building has been converted into 243 modern residences, setting a new standard for complex adaptive reuse in the nation’s capital. Residents will enjoy a suite of high-end amenities, including a fitness center, a central courtyard and a rooftop lounge with water features and sweeping city views.

The project’s complexity centered on reconfiguring the structure to create a light-filled, modern living experience. Executing a highly technical sequence, the CFP team removed the building’s southwest-facing walls, a portion of the elevator shafts and the roof over an enclosed atrium. This strategic demolition created a U-shaped floor plan, allowing for abundant natural light in the interior-facing units.
