Barton Malow Joins Alliance for Skilled Trades

Barton Malow has joined the Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades, a coalition of companies working to close the nation’s skilled-trades gap by expanding access to training, apprenticeships and career pathways. Barton Malow is one of 14 new members announced and is the only construction contractor that has joined the Alliance thus far.

The announcement coincides with the release of “The State of America’s Skilled Trades: A National Report,” a new study examining 124 skilled trades occupations across all 50 states. The report projects the U.S. will need to fill an estimated 1.7 million skilled trades openings each year through 2035, while training programs currently produce just 55 workers for every 100 needed. It also identifies nine states — Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas — where demand for skilled trades workers is exceptionally high.

For Barton Malow, the shortage is a familiar challenge. As a construction enterprise with strong self-perform capabilities, Barton Malow depends on a steady pipeline of skilled craft professionals to deliver its projects safely and on schedule.

Alongside the report, the Alliance launched America’s Skilled Trades Dashboard, an interactive tool with more than 5,000 state- and trade-specific profiles designed to help employers, educators and policymakers target training investment where it’s needed most. The report also points to a completion gap in existing programs: while only about half of people who enroll in skilled trades training finish, high-quality apprenticeship programs see completion rates above 90%.

Founded in July 2026 by BlackRock, Carhartt, Ford Motor Company and Google, the Alliance now spans construction, technology, telecommunications, workforce solutions and tool manufacturing. Members plan to work alongside other coalitions, including the Business Roundtable’s Skilled Trades for America Initiative and the Building Futures Skilled Trades Coalition, to raise awareness of trades careers nationwide.
