Gilbane Joins Bergen County Executives for Justice Center Groundbreaking

HACKENSACK, N.J. — Executives from Gilbane Building Company gathered with Bergen County officials recently to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Bergen County Justice Center in Hackensack, N.J. The project includes a new 131,000-square-foot building that will house the offices of the prosecutor, sheriff and probation department, among others. In addition, a secure pedestrian bridge will link the new facility to the existing county courthouse, which will undergo more than 40,000 square feet of renovations while a new 700-space parking structure will be added to the complex. The completed justice center will provide courtrooms, offices and support spaces for the program needs of the courts with special attention given to preserving and maintaining historical areas.

“It is a pleasure to be working again with the leaders and residents of Bergen County,” remarked John Fumosa, director of Gilbane’s New Jersey business unit. “We look forward to applying the expertise and best practices gained completing almost 3 million square feet of criminal justice facilities nationwide in the last five years to this exciting project to ensure that Bergen County and its communities receive a safe, secure facility that will serve their needs for decades to come.”

This is the latest addition to Gilbane’s long-standing history of providing superior construction services to Bergen County and its residents. Previous projects with the county include a new 266,000-square-foot five-story administration building and five-level parking deck; a 30,000-square-foot Bureau of Criminal Investigations building and a 263,000-square-foot, 661-bed jail annex expansion.
