COLUMBUS, Ga. — Brasfield & Gorrie recently announced the completed renovation of the Eagle & Phenix Mill No. 1 in Columbus, Ga. The $6.6-million construction project transformed the nineteenth-century cotton mill into an apartment building. Burned by federal forces near the end of the Civil War and rebuilt in 1869, the 43,000-square-foot building now houses 29 units.
“Transforming the Eagle & Phenix Mills and Machine Shop into modern-day living spaces is a unique opportunity to restore part of a historic community in Columbus,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Division Manager Wes Kelley.
In November 2012, Brasfield & Gorrie completed the award-winning renovation of Eagle & Phenix Mill No. 2, a 58,000-square-foot building that includes 44 units.
Serving as general contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie’s Columbus office teamed with design partner Barnes, Gibson, Patel Architects and developer WC Bradley Real Estate Development on the renovation of Eagle & Phenix Mill No. 1. The project began in May 2013 and was completed on schedule.
Currently, Brasfield & Gorrie is renovating the Eagle & Phenix Machine Shop, also located on the site, into unique upscale apartments. This 9,400-square-foot, three-unit apartment project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2014.
