PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Tutor Perini has recently set a record in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the mat foundation pour for the W/Element Hotel.
Beginning at 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, Tutor Perini Building Corp. and the team responsible for the construction of the new W/Element Hotel development made history in Center City Philadelphia. Five thousand eight hundred fifty cubic yards of concrete were placed to build the massive steel-reinforced mat foundation of the 51-story, 755-room dual-branded complex operated by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. The 28-hour effort – completed at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 10 – resulted in the largest continuous concrete pour in Philadelphia history.
To commemorate the event, the milestone was recorded with time-lapse cameras. The first of two programs about the pour can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/3nlJ6zb5mJw. A more detailed video is in production and will be released soon.
Tutor Perini was awarded the approximately $239-million contract in 2015 by Chestlen Development and Vine Street Matthews, a joint venture between Matthews Southwest and Vine Street Ventures. Cope Linder Architects is the project designer, O’Donnell & Naccarato is the structural engineer and Thomas P. Carney was the concrete subcontractor.
