Clark will construct a 500,000-square-foot detention center to expand and replace the existing Indio county jail and riverside sheriff’s department. The new facility will be constructed in two phases and will result in a 1,626-bed facility.
The first phase will include the construction of a three-story support building containing inmate intake, transfe, and release areas, medical clinics, a full-service kitchen with food storage and an extension of an existing below-grade tunnel. The project team also will construct a four-story structure consisting of two housing units with mezzanine levels. Each unit will have separate security segments and support functions. The second phase of the project will include equipment salvage, demolition and hardscape construction at the former jail location.
The detention center is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and will feature low-emitting materials and indoor air quality management.
HOK is serving as the project architect.
Construction will begin in July and substantial completion is scheduled for December 2017.
