Tacoma, WA — The Tacoma Goodwill Industries Milgard Work Opportunity Center, completed by Rushforth Construction in 2009, has won a 2010 Excellence in Construction award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Western Washington. The Milgard Work Opportunity Center took top prize in the Commercial Construction category. Two other Rushforth projects—Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community Wellness Center and The Grand Hotel and parking garage—received Honorable Mentions in Commercial Construction. At a recent celebration ABC of Western Washington presented a total of eleven awards for 2010, which each year recognize quality and innovation in construction.
Throughout the construction of the 63,000 square foot Milgard Work Opportunity Center, Rushforth saved time and money by coordinating and evaluating the process in real time with the designer and owner. Rushforth was also recognized for creatively solving site challenges and for bringing in more than $80,000 in gifts-in-kind to Goodwill Industries. The facility is under final review by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is expected to be LEED certified at the Gold level.
