Boldt recently hosted a signing day to celebrate its youth apprentices committing to pursue a career in the skilled trades or attend a post-secondary institution. Following the signing day, the company hosted a new career event called BuildX, an interactive day-in-the-life experience to connect industry leaders and high school students curious about a career in construction, architecture or engineering.
Boldt’s youth apprentices signed letters of intent to either an area university, or union, where they will pursue a career in the skilled trades – a sector in high demand due to large labor shortages. According to the Associated Builders and Contractors:
- In 2023, the industry will need to bring in nearly 590,000 new workers nationwide on top of normal hiring to meet industry demand.
- An estimated 1.2 million construction workers will leave their jobs to work in other industries in 2022. It is expected that this will be offset by an anticipated 1.3 million workers who will leave other industries to work in construction.
As a result, construction offers opportunity for many career paths.
Each year, Boldt participates in the “School to Career Partnership” Youth Apprenticeship Program, sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The program integrates school and work-based learning — assisting students on their journey into the workforce. Youth apprentices specialize in areas such as architecture, construction and marketing.
