Lend Lease Awarded Contract to Construct the $81.4M, State-of-the-Art Public Safety Campus

LARGO, Fla., — Lend Lease, through its legacy Bovis Lend Lease business, has been awarded the contract to build a brand new, state-of-the-art Public Safety Facilities and Centralized Communications Center for Pinellas County in Largo, Florida. The project has a total budget of $81.4M including all design, development, construction, furnishings and equipment.

The campus will include an Emergency Operations Center, a 911 call center, EMS, and Sheriff’s Dispatch Center, and the Sheriffs administrative and operational headquarters.   This is the second major construction project the Lend Lease Tampa Office has been awarded this year.

Additionally, on February 1, 2010, Lend Lease completed construction of the award winning Hyatt Regency, Clearwater Beach known as Aqualea Resort and Residences in Clearwater Beach, FL. The 17-story, 906,000 square foot luxurious resort hotel and condominiums, overlooks the Gulf of Mexico.

Occupying a large portion of the 40 acre site, the new Public Safety Facilities and Centralized Communications Center will include the complete demolition of existing buildings and replacement with newly constructed facilities including the Sheriff’s administrative building, Emergency Operations and Dispatch Centers, an 807 space parking garage, an energy plant which will supply power to heat and cool the building, and the Sheriff’s vehicle maintenance and communications building.   The new buildings will be designed as storm hardened facilities, withstanding up to 203 mile an hour winds, a necessary component with the threat of Florida hurricanes.

The buildings will be also be modeled using BIM technology (Building Information Modeling) which uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction.   The facilities will also be designed to meet LEED certification standards. During construction, the current Sherriff’s Department will continue to remain operational and the employees and community will see no change in service as a result.

Lend Lease will be working closely with the selected St. Petersburg Florida based architectural firm, Harvard Jolly. The project is expected to break ground in October 2011 with project completion set for August 2013.
