PORTLAND, Maine — Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has begun exterior restoration of the Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Building 200, located at the VA Maine Healthcare System Campus in Augusta, Maine.
The main hospital building at the VA, Building 200 is part of the oldest veteran’s facility in the country, opening in 1866. Currently a 67-operating bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as a 100-bed nursing facility.
The $5 million project encompasses a 30,000-square-foot restoration of the historic building’s façade and parapets, which will involve demolishing all existing parapets down to the roof line. Additional roof insulation and window flashings will be incorporated into the project. Consigli will erect staging around the entire facility while keeping the building open and fully operational. This is the second restoration project Consigli has performed at the VA Maine Healthcare System campus.
“Consigli is staffing this project with our local skilled tradesmen and masons to complete the complex restoration of this important building and we are excited to complete another restoration project for the Veterans Affairs,” said Matthew Tonello, Area Manager.
Project completion is scheduled for late 2013. Harriman Associates is the architect.
