DCC Volunteers Install Concrete for Colorado Veterans Monument
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Volunteer members of the Decorative Concrete Council, St. Louis, Missouri, traveled to Ken Caryl, Colorado (Southwest Denver) on May 28-29 to place and finish a decorative concrete slab for the Ken Caryl Veterans Monument. The monument is being built to commemorate veterans, as well as those on active duty and in the reserves in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. NIOSH Research Finds Practical Solution to Controlling Hazardous Dust
Attaching a regular shop vacuum to a dust-collecting circular saw can provide a simple, low-cost solution to reduce exposure to hazardous dust produced when construction workers cut fiber-cement siding. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health published this recommendation in “Workplace Solutions: Reducing Hazardous Dust Exposure when Cutting Fiber-Cement Siding.” Fiber-cement siding, a construction material that has grown in popularity in recent years, contains crystalline silica and, when cut, can create fine dust particles that a worker can inhale. NSF International Sustainability Standards Referenced in the 2015 International Green Construction Code
Sustainability standards developed by global public health organization NSF International for carpet, wall coverings, resilient flooring, textiles, roofing and stone are referenced in the 2015 International Green Construction Code. With the inclusion of these standards, those involved in the green building industry now have a wider selection of certified, IgCC-accepted sustainable building materials.
