UA Old Main Rehabilitation Project Wins Three Awards
TUCSON, Ariz. — Sundt Construction, Inc. led the Design-Build team that won three prestigious awards this month for renovating the University of Arizona Old Main building in Tucson, Arizona. The rehabilitation project, which preserved Arizona's second oldest continuously occupied building, received two awards from the Arizona Preservation Foundation and one from the Design-Build Institute of America Western Pacific Region. The Arizona Preservation Foundation, in collaboration with the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office/Arizona State Parks, chose Old Main from among nine Heritage Preservation Honor Award winners to receive the 2015 Grand Award. C.W. Driver Completes 22,000 SF Manhattan Beach Library
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. —C.W. Driver recently completed construction on the new city of Manhattan Beach Library in California. The existing library was demolished for the construction of a new, two-story, 22,000-square-foot library built with a point supported double glass curtainwall. Construction on the $19-million Design-Build project began in July 2013 and completed April 2015. Construction Materials Prices up for May, Down for Year
Prices for inputs to construction industries expanded by 1.1 percent in May, the largest month-over-month increase in more than two years and only the third time in the past 10 months that construction input prices have grown on a monthly basis. Year-over-year prices fell by 3 percent in May and have now fallen by more than 3 percent in each of the year’s first five months. The last time this occurred was the third and fourth quarter of 2009. ALACHUA, Fla. — NCCER and its Build Your Future initiative are once again declaring October as Careers in Construction Month. Throughout the month, industry and education partner locally to host career events that introduce students to rewarding construction careers. Last month, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation recognizing October 2015 as Careers in Construction Month throughout the state. Any state resident can file a proclamation for his or her governor to sign.
