SEAA Names 2013 Steel Erection Projects of the Year Winners

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Steel Erectors Association of America announces the winners of its annual Project of the Year competition. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges. Four companies were recognized in 2013. “Since the contest’s inception more than 10 years ago, SEAA has recognized complex and unique steel erection projects throughout the world. Brasfield & Gorrie Completes Resolute Health Hospital

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Brasfield & Gorrie announced the on-schedule completion of the $120-million Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas. The four-story, 364,000-square-foot hospital includes 22 emergency department exam rooms, three trauma rooms, four operating rooms, 16 intensive care unit rooms and 16 neonatal intensive care unit rooms. McCarthy Tops Out Georgia State University College of Law Building

McCarthy recently reached a construction milestone with the topping out the new building for Georgia State University College of Law. Being built to achieve LEED Silver, the facility is on John Wesley Dobbs Avenue, 1 block east of Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia. The 200,000-square-foot Georgia State Law building is the university's first dedicated legal education facility, housed on a 2.42-acre site located on the downtown campus. Dodge Momentum Index Makes Third Straight Gain in June

NEW YORK, N.Y. The Dodge Momentum Index gained 3.3 percent in June to 128.7 (2000=100), its third consecutive increase following hesitation in February and March, according to McGraw Hill Construction, a division of McGraw Hill Financial. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year. Construction Employment Below Peak Levels, Recovery Remains Choppy

Construction firms added jobs in 38 states and the District of Columbia over the past 12 months, but they reduced headcount in 27 states between May and June, according to an analysis of Labor Department data by the Associated General Contractors of America.
