The construction industry gained 48,000 jobs in January, according to the Feb. 7 employment report by the U.S. Department of Labor. Nonresidential construction gained 21,000 jobs, representing a significant rebound from the 14,100 jobs lost by the segment in December. Brasfield & Gorrie Pours the Foundation for Florida Hospital’s New Women’s Hospital
Brasfield & Gorrie and Florida Hospital laid the foundation for Florida Hospital for Women, making it the second largest foundation pour in Central Florida. The overnight pour involved 6,700 cubic yards of concrete transported by more than 100 concrete trucks that made 750 trips over a 12-hour period. The amount of rebar used to reinforce the foundation, laid end to end, would stretch from Orlando to Tampa. The project team conducted a 47,000-cubic-yard excavation prior to pouring the mat foundation, and 4,200 tons of recycled aggregate have been placed underneath the mat foundation.
