HACKENSACK, N.J. — Executives from Gilbane Building Company gathered with Bergen County officials recently to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Bergen County Justice Center in Hackensack, N.J. The project includes a new 131,000-square-foot building that will house the offices of the prosecutor, sheriff and probation department, among others. In addition, a secure pedestrian bridge will link the new facility to the existing county courthouse, which will undergo more than 40,000 square feet of renovations while a new 700-space parking structure will be added to the complex. FMI Releases Forecast for 2014 in the Q3-2013 Construction Outlook Report

RALEIGH, N.C. — FMI recently released its Q3-2013 Construction Outlook. The markets continue to shift, reducing annual construction-put-place predictions to $909.6 billion, down nearly $4 billion from previous predictions. Early forecasts for 2014 show annual CPIP continues moderate growth of 7 percent, rising to $977 billion. Major market predictions include : Residential Construction — FMI continues to forecast traction in residential construction. However, the growth is expected to taper off to 12 percent in 2014. Brasfield & Gorrie Announces Completion of New Auburn University Research Center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Brasfield & Gorrie announced the completion of the Auburn University Center for Advanced Science, Innovation and Commerce, a new 84,000-square-foot building that will house five multidisciplinary research departments. As construction manager of the project, Brasfield & Gorrie coordinated the work of seven prime contractors and managed the project’s $28.8-million budget. Funding for the research center was provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the state of Alabama, Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station and Auburn University. Construction employment stagnated in August, while the industry unemployment rate fell and a majority of companies reported difficulty finding workers, according to an analysis of new government data and an industry survey by the Associated General Contractors of America.
