Total construction spending climbed modestly in May as growth in residential and public construction offset a drop in private nonresidential activity, according to an analysis of new Census Bureau data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Gilbane to Provide Construction Management for High School Consolidation
GLASTONBURY, Conn. — Gilbane Building Company has been selected to provide construction management-at-risk services to the town of Enfield, Conn., for the consolidation of the town's two existing high schools, Enfield High School and Enrico Fermi High School. The project consists of a 147,700-square-foot addition to Enfield High School, along with a 165,000-square-foot renovation of the existing school. Construction Employment, Job Growth Increase
Construction employment increased in 185 out of 339 metropolitan areas between May 2012 and May 2013, declined in 115 and was stagnant in 39, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. OSHA Announces Safety Stand-Down in New York, New Jersey
ALBANY, N.Y. — The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration is encouraging construction employers in New York and New Jersey to participate in a safety stand-down held from June 24 to July 3. The OSHA safety stand-down will focus on preventing falls within the construction industry by partnering with contractors, unions and workers to distribute safety information to more than 4,000 organizations. “Falls continue to be the leading cause of worker deaths, and we need to ensure that top-level management remains committed to supporting effective injury prevention programs” said Robert Kulick, OSHA’s regional administrator in New York. … Read more
