The Building Trades Employers Association, representing 1,200 union contractors in New York, recently held its annual SAFEBUILD national industry forum designed to promote worker safety and salute firms with best practices. PCL Construction Completes Greenhouse to Feed Students
PCL Construction celebrated the construction completion of Denver Public School’s Glenbrook Greenhouse – a $4.5-million, 28,000-square-foot greenhouse spanning four acres on the southwestern tip of the city and county of Denver, Colorado. The greenhouse can hold up to 3,500 plants with a warehouse area to accommodate shipping of vegetables to DPS’ over 200 schools serving more than 90,000 students. Construction Employment Increases In 230 of 358 Metro Areas from May 2022 to May 2023
Construction employment increased in 230, or 64%, of 358 metro areas between May 2022 and May 2023, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of new government employment data. Association officials cautioned, however, that it is getting harder for firms to find workers as the unemployment rate for the construction sector continues to fall. Dallas-Plano-Irving, Texas added the most construction jobs (11,600 jobs or 8%), followed by New York City (9,600 jobs, 7%); Columbus, Ohio (6,100 jobs, 13%); Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, Ga. Philadelphia’s Future Female Leaders Attend Free Construction Camp for Girls throughout Summer
Local Philadelphia-area girls entering 7th through 12th grade will attend a free construction camp this summer to provide real-world experience, mentorship and education about the opportunities that exist in the construction industry, regardless of gender. The camp is called MyWIC, which stands for Mentoring young Women In Construction and will take place in Philadelphia between Thursday, July 6 through Friday, Aug. 11. MyWIC is run by the NAWIC Philadelphia Foundation, which partnered with companies like NEST and Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern Jersey to make it a reality.
