Associated Builders and Contractors’ Construction Backlog Indicator has increased to 9.2 months in November, according to an ABC member survey conducted Nov. 21-Dec. 6. Construction Job Openings Decreased By 52,000, Says ABC
The construction industry had 371,000 job openings in October, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. JOLTS defines a job opening as any unfilled position for which an employer is actively recruiting. Industry job openings decreased by 52,000 last month and are down 21,000 from the same time last year.
McCarthy Forms New Southern Region Civil Business Unit
McCarthy has formed a civil business unit for the company’s Southern region. Jeromy Shaw, senior vice president of operations, leads the civil business unit, focusing on clients in transportation, rail, aviation, renewables, water and commercial markets. Shaw joined McCarthy in 2012 and has over 20 years of experience in the industry. In his previous role, Shaw was responsible for the oversight of the Dallas preconstruction team, leading preconstruction efforts for projects in key market sectors including roads and bridges, water and wastewater, renewable energy and marine market sectors.
Erickson-Hall Breaks Ground on Palomar College Athletic Facilities
Erickson-Hall Construction Co. joined more than 100 Palomar College faculty and staff, development team members, and community leaders for the groundbreaking of the college’s new football stadium and softball fields. The $22.8-million facilities at the San Marcos, California campus were designed by HMC Architects and funded by the $694 million Proposition M. Construction on the football and softball stadiums is expected to last one year, with completion anticipated in October.
