The project was funded by Measure LL, a $247-million general obligation bond approved by voters in November 2018, targeted at supporting college and career readiness, repairing aging facilities and improving security. The National Association of Women in Construction Philadelphia Foundation and NEST Nurtures will host the 13th annual MyWIC camp. It will bring real-world experiences and mentorship to girls in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area this summer. The free in-person construction camp for girls will provide education about the opportunities that exist in the construction industry, regardless of gender. McCarthy Completes Barbours Cut Terminal Container Yard 3N
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has completed construction on the Barbours Cut Terminal Container Yard 3N for the Port Houston Authority in Houston, Texas. The project is part of a modernization program to increase cargo handling efficiency. The container yard adds approximately 10 acres of new shipping container storage at the terminal complex. The company was tasked with a rehabilitation of the existing site which included new utility upgrades, new high-mast light poles and a realignment of the main interterminal access road through this area. Nonresidential Construction Spending Slightly Dips, Says ABC
National nonresidential construction spending was down by 0.6% in May, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors’ analysis of data published by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $832.5 billion for the month. Spending was down on a monthly basis in 10 of the 16 nonresidential subcategories. Private nonresidential spending was down 0.4%, while public nonresidential construction spending was down 0.8% in May. Sam Hall Announced as Vice President of Common Ground Alliance’s Damage Prevention Institute
Common Ground Alliance announced Sam Hall will join as vice president of the Damage Prevention Institute. The newly created DPI will utilize data and statistics to generate insights and efficiencies that will reduce the rate of damages to buried infrastructure.
