Grand Canyon University and McCarthy Building Companies have expanded GCU’s successful Center for Workforce Development to include four new trades — civil construction, mechanical/plumbing, HVAC and concrete — opening the door to more career opportunities for students and creating a pipeline of skilled talent for the construction industry. The Pre-Apprentice Construction General Pathway is launching this fall with civil construction and mechanical/plumbing, followed by HVAC and concrete in fall 2026. Delivered under budget, the project includes a newly constructed two-story facility that replaces the school’s existing mobile classroom units, reducing class sizes and improving campus safety. The Stevens Construction special projects team provided a 5,018-square-foot complete interior renovation, which included a full demolition of the existing hurricane-damaged space and build-out into a boutique health facility offering a full suite of services including physical and message therapy, personal training, pilates and nutrition coaching.
