CPWR to serve as NIOSH National Construction Center

CPWR’s selection to again serve as the NIOSH National Construction Center has provided the opportunity to continue conducting applied research that improves construction worker safety and health. Included in this work are 13 new multi-year research projects — seven led by university-based research partners and six by CPWR staff. Some build off previous research, on topics such as manual materials handling, isocyanates and nanotechnology; others head in new directions, such as promoting safety and health for women construction workers through mentorship and evaluating exoskeletons. Golden West Math and Science Building Complete

A new Math and Science Building for Golden West College, located in Huntington Beach, California, has recently been completed. The three-story, 120,516-square-foot building provides 18 wet and dry science laboratories, lecture space, faculty offices and a STEM center. The new building will serve as a creative space for the math, life and physical science departments to foster innovation and invention. The project is designed to exceed LEED Silver standards. McCarthy Grows Aviation Portfolio with Helisim Project

McCarthy Building Companies is working with HPM Leadership and Airbus Helicopters Inc. and Helisim (a French joint venture of Airbus, Thales AVS and DCI), to build a helicopter pilot simulation training center in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Helisim Simulation Center is the company’s first helicopter training facility in North America and serves as its North American headquarters. McCarthy broke ground in May 2019, topped out last month and is expected to complete the project March 2020. Construction Employment Increases in 231 out of 358 Metro Areas from October 2018 to October 2019

Construction employment grew in 231, or 65%, out of 358 metro areas between October 2018 and October 2019, declined in 69 and was unchanged in 58, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America.
