Sundt Safety Program Wins Two AGC Awards

Sundt Construction’s Stop The STCKY program was awarded first place for Innovation at the 2024 Associated General Contractors of America Annual Convention. The firm also took second place in the heavy civil category for the AGC Construction Safety Excellence Awards. The program addresses how the industry’s recordable injury rate has gone down over the last decade, but fatalities have plateaued. This year marks Sundt’s 12th Construction Safety Excellence Award from the AGC. Sundt’s safety program has been recognized twice with the AGC CSEA Grand award for safety, in 2006 and 2016. Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health to Meet April 24

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced that the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health will meet for a teleconference and online meeting from 1-5:30 p.m. EDT on April 24. The committee will discuss the Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Workplaces and Infectious Diseases rulemakings and other issues with a period for public comments. ABC Releases February Construction Spending Data

National nonresidential construction spending declined 1 % in February, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of data published by the U.S. Census Bureau. On a seasonally adjusted annualized basis, nonresidential spending totaled $1.179 trillion. Spending was down in a monthly basis in 15 of the 16 nonresidential subcategories. Private nonresidential spending fell 0.9%, while public nonresidential construction spending was down 1.2% in February. “Virtually every nonresidential construction segment experienced a decline in spending in February,” said ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu. “In certain instances, the monthly decline was sharp, including healthcare (-2.2%), commercial (-1.9%) and water supply (-1.8%). … Read more

Linc Housing Starts Construction on Supportive Housing for People at Risk of Homelessness

Construction is underway on North Harbor Apartments, a Homekey development that served as interim housing and is now being transformed into 87 supportive housing apartments for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. The development is one of four Homekey sites for Linc Housing, with a total of 393 new affordable and supportive homes in Orange and Los Angeles counties in California.
