Brasfield & Gorrie Completes New Residence Hall at UF's Innovation Square

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Brasfield & Gorrie has completed construction of Infinity Hall, a new residence hall located at The University of Florida's Innovation Square in Gainesville, Florida. The new living-learning center has opened to students for the fall semester.   With a capacity to accommodate more than 300 residents, the facility's four floors of residence suites include eight single rooms, 16 single-suite rooms, 48 double-suite rooms and 20 four-person-suite rooms. Unionized Construction Firms See Fewer Costly, Serious Injuries

MIAMI, Fla. — A new study shows construction firms that hire union workers have fewer work injuries requiring workers" compensation payments for time away from work. The study, Protecting Construction Worker Health and Safety in Ontario Canada: Identifying a Union Safety Effect, was conducted in Canada but has direct implications for the industry in the United States where 74,950 construction workers suffered “lost-time” injuries in 2010, according to statistics collected by the National Safety Council. Rochester Community Technical College, Knutson Construction Break Ground on CTECH/STEM Center

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — On Aug. 18, Knutson Construction participated in a groundbreaking event for the Career Technical Education Center at Heintz in Rochester, Minnesota. Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and Rochester Community and Technical College selected Knutson to provide construction management services for the 22,350-square-foot, $6.5-million CTECH and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math facility addition at the University Center Rochester campus. Designed by HGA Architects, the new CTECH/STEM 19,000-square-foot building will be adjacent to the Heintz Center and is scheduled to be complete by July 2016. Walsh Gilbane JV Wins Public Health Command Laboratory Replacement

ARLINGTON, Va. — Walsh Gilbane JV (a joint venture of Walsh Federal, LLC and Gilbane Federal) has been awarded the Public Health Command Lab Replacement project located on 20 acres on Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.   The $206-million fixed price contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District for the Army Institute of Public Health. The design-bid-build project includes the construction of more than 275,000 square feet of modern, consolidated medical research laboratory consisting of wet labs, field labs, vivarium under Good Laboratory Practices, offices, warehouses and a central utility plant. New SLS Test Stand Begins to Rise at Marshall Space Flight Center

Brasfield & Gorrie installed the first major steel piece for a new structural test stand for the liquid hydrogen tank of the NASA Space Launch System's massive core stage on Aug. 31 at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.   Crews welded the steel to the foundation of a structure that will rise to 215 feet—or about 23 stories—when completed in the summer of 2016, adding another distinctive feature to Marshall's skyline.   The installation is part of a construction project led by general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie.
