New Construction Disappoints in Second Quarter

ATLANTA, Ga. — U.S. construction starts came in below expectations during the second quarter, held back by disappointing business investment. Both residential and nonresidential sectors underperformed relative to forecast, according to construction data provider CMD's latest quarterly report. The forecast, which combines CMD's proprietary data with macroeconomic factors, showed total starts performing lower than expected primarily due to the sluggish U.S. economy at the beginning of the second quarter. Healthy Growth Expected for Nonresidential Construction Market

Construction Employment Declines Year-Over-Year Amid Highway, Transit Funding Uncertainty

Construction employment declined in 127 metro areas, was stagnant in 51 and increased in 180 between June 2014 and June 2015, according to a new analysis of federal employment data recently released by the Associated General Contractors of America.
