Crane Institute Certification recently conducted the first in a series of regional rodeo qualifier events as part of the Crane Operator Rodeo, organized by MCM Events. From August to October, operators from across the country will compete in crane safety and skills competitions created by CIC practical examiners. AGC Reports 1,000 Construction Jobs Added in August

Construction employers added 1,000 jobs in August while the industry’s unemployment rate fell to 11.3 percent, according to an analysis of new federal data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. The unemployment declines come as the construction industry continues to shrink, association officials noted, adding that over 214,000 workers have left the industry since August 2011. The construction employment gains for the past month and past year have largely come from the residential sector. AEM publishes updated Truck-Mounted Forklift Safety Manual

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers has extensively updated its Truck-Mounted Forklift Safety Manual to provide machine operators, maintenance personnel and others on the jobsite with up-to-date industry safety and maintenance information. The manual outlines some of the basic safety situations that may be encountered during normal operation and maintenance of the machine and suggests possible ways of dealing with these conditions. The manual is not a substitute for the manufacturer's operating manual(s). Construction Spending Continues Growth

Construction spending in July maintained consistent year-over-year growth despite a pullback from the June peak, according to an analysis of new federal data released by the Associated General Contractors of America.
