CONEXPO-CON/AGG and IFPE 2011 show management report that a successful recycling/repurposing program was conducted at the shows, held in late March 2011 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The shows continued a recycling program initiated at the 2008 event, and for 2011 took those efforts a step further with the “Repurpose AMERICA program presented by DoppstadtUS.” Repurpose AMERICA complements and completes the recycling process by capturing non-recyclable material that would have ended up in landfills. Several States Add Construction Jobs between April 2010 and 2011, AGC Says

Construction employment patterns diverged across the country in April as 19 states plus the District of Columbia added jobs over the past year even as losses deepened in others, the Associated General Contractors of America reported in an analysis of state employment data released by the Labor Department. Construction Backlog Grows 4% in First Quarter

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) reported that its Construction Backlog Indicator (CBI) for the first quarter of 2011 averaged 7.3 months, a 4 percent increase from 7.1 months during the fourth quarter of 2010, and up from 6.1 months, or an increase of 21 percent, from one year ago. McCarthy Completes Construction of Net Zero Parking Structure at Long Beach City College

LONG BEACH, Calif. — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. recently completed construction of a net-zero design-build parking structure at Long Beach City College Liberal Arts Campus.  The $19-million construction project was built with Measure E facilities bond money approved by the voters in 2008. McCarthy served as general contractor for the 900-car parking structure along with design partner Choate Parking Consultants.
